A famous YouTuber with about 100,000 subscribers has been handed over to the prosecution on charges of a rental fraud scheme worth 10 billion won.
On the 21st, Suwon Nambu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that a 40-year-old YouTuber, Mr. Moon, who operates under the name "King Arthur" and has around 100,000 subscribers, was recently sent to the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office in custody on charges of rental fraud.
Since 2017, Mr. Moon allegedly purchased multiple villas and apartments in the Suwon and Hwaseong areas using a "no-capital gap investment" method, where he would buy buildings and immediately enter into rental agreements to cover the purchase costs. However, he is accused of failing to return the deposit money to the tenants.
There are reportedly 77 victims, with total damages amounting to approximately 11.9 billion won. His crimes came to light after the affected tenants filed complaints against him.
About 10 days ago, Mr. Moon posted on his YouTube channel's community page, saying, "I recently had a severe cold, and after getting tested, it was confirmed to be COVID-19. I’ve lost my voice. If I stream for a while, I will only communicate through chat." Since then, no new videos have been uploaded to his channel.
The police are conducting additional investigations into whether Mr. Moon had any accomplices and if there are more crimes associated with him.
